Scientific Reports today published a paper describing the FLAT rapid extraction method that allows identification of bacteria and fungi in one hour. Determination of colistin resistance in Gram-negative bacteria is also demonstrated. Pataigin Wins Innovation Award

Today, at a joint meeting of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and Johns Hopkins University, Pataigin was awarded a $25,000 Maryland Department of Commerce Life award for Pataigin’s application of lipid fingerprint technology licensed from UMB. Pataigin has developed a test, called BACLIB, that inexpensively identifies bacteria and fungi causing infections in less than an hour. Pataigin Granted Exclusive Rights to Lipid Fingerprint Technology

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has granted Pataigin worldwide, exclusive licensing rights to UMB patents and technology for a method to quickly and accurately identify dangerous pathogens. Robert Ernst, Ph.D., associate professor of microbial pathogenesis at UMB School of Dentistry, and David Goodlett, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences at UMB School of Pharmacy, are patent inventors. The University of Washington is also a co-owner on one of the patents.
